High Point businessman, deacon faces 32 sex abuse chargesBy Nick G. Maheras High Point Enterprise WSII-12 June 13, 2008 HIGH POINT -- A prominent High Point businessman and deacon at Emerywood Baptist Church has been charged by a Guilford County grand jury with 32 counts of sex crimes against a child or children. Guy Carr, 65, of W. Parkway Avenue, was arrested Wednesday at his family business, Carr Mill Supplies on Manley Street. Carr, charged in incidents that allegedly happened 15 years ago, was in the Guilford County Jail in High Point Wednesday night under $1 million bond. The Rev. Robert Ferguson, senior pastor of Emerywood Baptist Church on Country Club Drive, noted that those charged with crimes must be proven guilty in the United States. Carr grew up attending Emerywood Baptist. "We don't need to have a rush to judgment," Ferguson said. "If these allegations prove to be true, it is very deplorable. We are trying to help everybody in the case -- care for them and provide what they need without condemning anyone until a jury returns its verdict. "None of these things happened anywhere near our church, or our church is not directly involved. We don't know what a person has in their closet -- any of us. Without pre-judging, we're just trying to provide love and care for everybody -- for him as well as any of the victims, whoever they may be."
