A Hoover man arrested Thursday on charges of child abuse and third-degree sex offense in a Maryland case was an adjunct music instructor at Samford University, the school confirmed today.

Timothy Mann, 46, was teaching this semester before his arrest and had periodically taught previously, but was not a full-time or permanent part-time employee, Samford University Provost Bradley Creed said.

Officer Melanie Hadley of the Montgomery County Police Department in Maryland said today she could not give details of the charges against Mann. Hoover police arrested him at his home Thursday morning. Hadley said he was expected to be extradited to Maryland.
